Getting In Shape While Riding A Recumbent Tricycle For Adults

By Janet Miller

Different people have different abilities to play intense and risky sports. What is easy for one is not for the next. Recent studies show that obesity is a problem and many adults have already given up exercising. It's not fun for them anymore and trying to participate in the highly active sports such a riding a bike or kayaking is just not an option for them. Using a recumbent tricycle for adults is a great way to get in shape while having fun. Most adults can remember their first bike and how excited they were to go from training wheels to just the two wheels. Now, it is time to head back to the more stable version and get back in shape.

Since riding a bike is riskier and unavailable for some, using a trike is the next best thing. This will save your knees from running or jogging. If you are plus-sized, leaning forward over the handlebars is near impossible to do for a period of time or miles. The recumbent trike gives you the ability to sit back, enjoy the ride and be able to look around and see the scenery instead of staring at the road ahead of you. Plus, with three wheels, these machines are stable and you won't have to worry about falling over if you don't get your feet down in time when you stop.

The number one new year's resolution is to get in shape. This is a great goal and achievable if you make the right choices. Unfortunately, not everyone can do the harder sports. The trike offers comfort because you will be sitting down or back just as you would in a regular chair. Since you will be pedaling, you are getting the same exercise that any bike ride has to offer.

Fun should be a goal in any chosen sport. While exercise and getting fit is the primary goal, you should be able to have fun along the way. Playing sports is just that: playing. If you're not having fun, you're more likely to quit. When you are too out of shape to play basketball or go skiing, riding a recumbent bike will give you what you need in exercise and help you have fun. You will be able to see the view as you zip by and be able to go farther distances, which increases the exercise without even realizing it.

Trikes are more stable than bikes. Having three wheels makes it so you won't have to worry about falling over. Adults often worry about this since it has been a long time since they rode a bike. This gives you the ability to get out and ride without the techniques needed to ride a bike. Having to put your foot down as you coordinate the gears and brakes can be a bit much. On a trike, you can come to a complete stop without putting your foot down at all. When you're ready, just release the brake and start pedaling again to go. No extra coordination needed.

Longer distances are now in range. Since you won't spend your time bend over the front wheel, staring at the ground, you can go longer distances. Sitting back in the trike lets you view what is around you and you won't be hunched over while you go. Being in a sitting or slightly reclined position gives you more stamina as you go.

Trikes offer a great way to get to work. Riding your trike to work is a really good way to get in shape and start the day. You won't be winded and worn out when you get to work. There are groups that offer tours on these since they are built for people of different levels of health and exercise abilities.

Using a trike to get your exercise is both fun and beneficial. No more leaning forward and only seeing the ground. You can also go longer distances because your back will not be hurting. You can also enjoy the view as you go.
